Michigan Millers Insurance today announced that its Scholarship Committee has selected the following three applicants to receive merit-based scholarships for the upcoming fall term: Leah Bouwman (Grosse Ile, Mich.), Katherine Pierino (Getzville, N.Y.), and Maisie Walter (Troy, Mich.).

Leah Bouwman (Grosse Ile, Mich.), child of Kerri and Jeff Bouwman, will be a sophomore this year at Grand Valley State University (Allendale, Mich.) studying biology with a pre-veterinary medicine emphasis. In school, Leah has been involved with marching band, Kappa Kappa Psi, and the Seidman Mentorship Program. Outside of school, she has participated in a job shadow opportunity at Blue Lake Animal Hospital.

Leah’s mother, Kerri, is a Michigan Millers agency partner at AssuredPartners in Wyandotte, Mich.

Katherine Pierino (Getzville, N.Y.), child of James Pierino, will be a sophomore this year at Binghamton University (Binghamton, N.Y.) studying psychology. In school, Kate has been involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, and Link Crew. Outside of school, she has participated in travel softball.

Katherine’s father, James, is a Michigan Millers agency partner at Lawley Insurance in Buffalo, N.Y.

Maisie Walter (Troy, Mich.), child of Andrea and Corey Walter, will be a sophomore at Oakland University (Rochester, Mich.) studying psychology. Maisie’s mother, Andrea, is an Underwriter at Specialty Insurance Solutions.

Scholarships are available annually to three eligible, college-enrolled children of Michigan Millers partner agents and employees in our states of operation. Applications are judged on a variety of criteria (including academics, curricular and extra-curricular activity participation, a letter of recommendation, and an essay), with students’ identifying information hidden from the judges to ensure the integrity of the scoring process.

“At Michigan Millers, we are proud to recognize and celebrate our 2025 scholarship recipients,” said John Parsons, President. “Over the last four years, it has been a privilege to contribute to the academic journeys of the children of our agency partners and employees. Through this scholarship, we aim to provide meaningful support as these students pursue their educational goals.”
